What to Expect
Once a beginner drummer has developed their technique to a sufficient level and learned some basic rudiments and exercises, they will learn their first drum score ( a standard 4/4 march). When the student is able to play this score confidently on a drum, he or she will be invited to attend Junior band practices. These are scheduled every second Friday and are a great opportunity for students to meet other pipers and drummers and to learn to play along side new friends in a band environment. Each practice runs from 6.30 until 8.00pm, and is a lot of fun with games, challenges and the opportunity to practice new tunes with other drummers.
The next step is the Society's competitive Juvenile band, and once a student has learned a second drum score, they will be invited to practice on a Tuesday evening (6.45 - 7.30) with this more experienced drum corps.

For learner students over the age of 18, the next step would be the Society's grade 4 band. This is also where Juvenile drummers will progress to, although they will continue to play in the Juvenile drum corps as well. Students will attend grade 4 practices at the discretion of their tutor as this is quite a big step.
From grade 4, dedicated drummers will be able to progress to the Society's grade 3 band and ultimately the grade 1 band, which competes at the World Pipe Band Championships in Scotland.
