Erin Nogat started on the side drum at age 6. She then moved into the tenor and bass section at age 8 and has loved it ever since. She has been playing in the Canterbury Caledonian Society Grade 1 pipe band since 2003 after coming through the ranks of the Juvenile, Grade 4 and Grade 3 society pipe bands. With the grade 1 band she has won the National championships as well as 2 National flourishing trophies, 1 National mid section prize, 2 National drumming trophies while playing in the drum corps and has competed at the World Pipe Band Championships in Scotland in 2010 and 2011. In her solo competitions she has reached the top "Open" grade in both tenor and bass and is a registered judge for the Canterbury Centre.

Currently she is playing with the Grade 1 pipe band, judging solos competitions and teaching the Juvenile and Grade 4 pipe bands as well as taking private lessons at her home.

John McTainsh
In 1965, aged 16, John joined the Riccarton Pipe Band. Tutored by the late Ken Boyce enjoyed a successful time with the band and was part of the team when they won the C Grade at the National Contest in 1969.

In 1974 John joined the Scottish Society Pipe Band and thrived in the competitive atmosphere of a Grade 1 band, eventually becoming the Band's President. He retired from the Band in 1998 has since played with Tauranga and Districts and currently with the Canterbury Caledonian Pipe Band.

Composing music (both light and piobaireached) and tutoring pupils are his great enjoyment.

In past years he actively competed in solo competitions in all aspects of light music and piobaireached as well as playing for Highland Dancing for many years.
